Welcome to First Fruits-Life Roots
It began with one simple idea: share what we have to help neighbors in need. Our founder, Mildred Taylor, first experienced the power of community while volunteering with Lunches of Love in Stone Mountain. Inspired, she started giving away produce from her family’s garden.

We provide food assistance and fresh produce from our garden to families in need. We also support young adults (ages 18–25) with housing guidance, education, job training, and life-skills development. In addition, we help homeless seniors navigate resources to secure housing and essential services.

Once connected, we’ll guide you through available resources, provide food assistance, and offer personalized support based on your needs. First Fruits began with a simple act of service. Over 13 years ago, our founder volunteered with Lunches of Love and soon after donated the very first fruits and vegetables from her own little garden directly to their director. That small gesture planted the seed that grew into what First Fruits is today.
Because of that history, many of our volunteer opportunities are group efforts with Lunches of Love, where we honor their long-standing dedication to the community. Volunteers join us at food distributions and events under the First Fruits name, working side by side with Lunches of Love.
At the same time, First Fruits will also need its own volunteers to help in the garden, provide food assistance, and support families, young adults, and seniors. Whether you serve directly with us or alongside our partners, your time helps grow food, grow people, and grow hope.
